Annual Review

Annual reviews are conducted annually, or more often if necessary, the IEP team shall meet to review and revise the IEP of all Special Education students or students eligible for speech-language services and determine placement. The annual review meeting must take place within one year of the previous IEP conference. The date that the actual IEP was developed applies.
 
PREPARATION FOR AN ANNUAL REVIEW MEETING

  • Send Notice of Meeting with PRISE to the parent at least 15 days before the meeting. Give copies of the Notice of Meeting to:
    • School principal in order to provide coverage (schedule for the teacher’s prep period if at all possible.
    • Teacher(s) along with an IEP planner.
    • All related service providers  
       

AT THE ANNUAL REVIEW MEETING IEP TEAM REVIEWS

  • Progress made towards the achievement of annual goals and objectives in the general curriculum and/or related services;
  • The results of any assessments (standardized, criterion-referenced, teacher made tests);
  • Information about the student (including information provided by the parents) and the observations of teachers and related service providers;
  • The student’s anticipated needs;
  • Other relevant matters. 
     

TIME FRAMES FOR THE ANNUAL REVIEW

  • Plan to have the IEP completed at least 15 days prior to due date. A month prior to due date, the planner should be given to teacher and the letter to parent should be prepared for mailing.
  • Within 15 calendar days of the meeting, the parent/adult student shall be provided with written notice of the proposed actions, including the IEP. Cross County Clinical Services will ensure all provisions of written notice, including the state’s short procedural safeguards statement. Note: If the spoken language of the parent is other than English, then the IEP and Notice Following IEP Development form (translated into the spoken language of the parent) must also be sent.
  • The parent/adult student shall be provided 15 calendar days to consider implementation of the IEP. The parent/adult student may agree in writing to immediate implementation.
  • The IEP may be implemented after 15 calendar days of the meeting, if parent and/or adult student attended the meeting, or were provided with code mandated written notice of the meeting but did not attend, but did not sign and did not disagree by requesting mediation or a due process hearing.
  • If the parent/guardian/adult student didn’t attend the meeting, refused to provide consent, or disagreed with the final recommendations, mediation or due process should be sought.
